Product Description

Airway smooth muscle is fundamental for maintaining airway tone. The specialized ultrastructural features and regulatory mechanisms of airway smooth muscle are vital for normal airway function. Previous studies have shown that airway smooth muscle undergoes phenotypic changes during development and in various respiratory disorders [1]. Airway smooth muscle may also mediate the immune response by secreting cytokines and chemokines [1]. Cultured human tracheal smooth muscle cells (HTSMC) express three p21-activated kinase (PAK) isoforms which may promote HTSMC migration by signaling to p38 MAPK [2]. HTSMC proliferation is an important component of airway remodeling in asthma and is consequently a target for the development of novel anti-asthma agents.

iXCells Biotechnologies provides high quality Human Tracheal Smooth Muscle Cells (HTSMC), which are isolated from human trachea and cryopreserved at P1, with >0.5 million cells in each vial. HTSMC express α-smooth muscle actin and desmin and are negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fung. HTSMC can further expand for 12 population doublings inSmooth Muscle Cell Growth Medium (Cat # MD-0034) under the condition suggested by iXCells Biotechnologies.
